UGH.

After an excellent Christmas at home with my family, my luck seems to have taken a bit of a turn for the worse. I hope it's not a premonition of things to coooomeee. ¬_¬

Or perhaps, I just want to let off a bit of steam with a rant.

1. I have a paronychia on the middle finger of my left hand. It came on... I'm not sure when, but certainly before Christmas, and had really sarted to get on my nerves by Boxing day. (Note to self: Do not try lancing something with a needle again. It is in no way sharp enough to go through inflamed, sensitive, local-anaesthetic-devoid fingertip tissue. I was getting seriously annoyed by it though.)

First day back at work, I dragged myself to the GP surgery for what must have been the quickest GP appointment ever:
"oh, yes, that's a paronychia, you might get away with just having some antibiotics so take these for a week but go to A&E if it doesn't get better as you might need a little incision made under local anaesthetic."
I'd barely got my coat off by this point. O_o

It... didn't get any better, and was worse on Friday ("I'll give the fluclox a chance to work - it's not going to be instant results, right?"), to the point the pain kept waking me up during the wee hours of Saturday morning. Who'd have thought that such a tiny widdly bit of cellulitis could be so painful? Seriously, though, it was SO swollen, and starting to go yellow, that I had to do something.

Two days into my course of antibiotics, it got to the point on Saturday that I decided I CAN'T BE DEALING WITH THIS ANY MORE, and lanced it myself. (I have a couple of sterile scalpel blades - I use them for papercraft, normally, but these were still in their wrapper, so. Sterile!) After an explosion of disgusting green crud... the pain went away. :) So I still have a disgusting inflamed crudfest going on on my left hand, but it's not a hideously infected one too. I am keeping my fingers very firmly crossed, but the fluclox seems to be having an effect now.

2. The flucloxacillin I have dedicatedly been taking like a good little patient has upset my insides. It gives me indigestion at the point I take it (and I have to take it on an empty stomach, DAMMIT), and 3.5 days in it's wiped out my GI flora so I have the runs. Niiice. And as I'm on-call tonight (see point 3) and tomorrow is a bank holiday, I can't just pop into the Co-op on my way home to buy some Yakult.

3. I'm on-call tonight and the weather's rubbish. :( It wasn't rubbish when I cycled IN! Now it's blowing a gale and raining. *huff*
(OK, it's less "bad luck" about the on-call, as I volunteered, but the weather is still rubbish.)

4. The 1 o'clock lunch rush has just started... and CafeGypps have run out of baked potatoes. HOW CAN YOU RUN OUT OF BAKED POTATOES? It's not like they're expensive things you won't sell. >:P Half the queue departed when the woman said they weren't getting any more.

Edit: Argh I tempted fate. The back shutter in pharmacy is broken and I have to lower it manually... which takes forever. *whud*
